Knights alum Funk leads WHL in goals

North Okanagan Knights alum Zac Funk, 20, is enjoying a career season with the WHL’s Prince George Cougars.

Funk, who played for the Knights during the 2020-21 season, is second in the WHL with 65 points in 36 games. The Coldwater, B.C. product has a league-leading 37 goals.

Funk has played a key part in the Cougars being among the Canadian Hockey League’s best teams. In the CHL’s latest Top-10 Rankings, released on Jan. 2, the Cougars are No. 2. Funk recently registered four goals and nine points in a three-game stretch, which included recording his fifth hat-trick of the season.

 

 

In December, Funk had 14 goals and seven assists in 10 games. Two of his 14 goals were game-winners.

Since being acquired from the Calgary Hitmen last season, Funk has 91 points in 67 games. In 196 WHL regular season games, Funk has 169 points.

In Funk’s lone season with the Knights, impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, he registered a goal and three points in 3 games.
